Business of VU
The Business of VU program began in 2017 to provide Vanderbilt faculty, staff, and students with a deeper understanding of the university’s business operations and the broader higher education landscape.
Each fall, a cohort of approximately 30 participants is carefully selected through a competitive application process. Participants are selected based on their level of interest, background and experience, commitment to Vanderbilt University, and representation across schools and units. Applicants must have been employed by or enrolled at Vanderbilt for at least one year to be eligible.
Throughout the program, participants learn from university leaders and subject matter experts who play integral roles in advancing Vanderbilt’s mission and operations. This 8-week series will be held in-person bi-weekly on Thursdays from 3 – 5 pm.
Applications for the Fall cohort open annually the Monday following Vanderbilt University’s spring break and close on April 30.
Finance of VU
The Finance of VU is a lunch-and-learn style program created to strengthen staff understanding of Vanderbilt’s financial operations and connect the dots between central finance and unit-level processes. The program is open to:
- Financial Unit Managers (FUMs)
- Finance or Business Officers
- Department or unit managers
- Staff who regularly work with budgets, grants, or other financial operations
This 4-week series will be held in-person on Thursdays from 11 – 1pm and designed to be engaging, conversational, and practical—not a lecture series. Participants will gain a clearer understanding of how finance functions across campus and leave with insights they can apply directly to their roles.
Applications for the Spring cohort open annually on November 1 and close the Wednesday before Thanksgiving break.
